ABSTRACT
Shortly after Muli’s wedding, a woman named Lakhi seduces him and goes to work as his prostitute. Meanwhile, his new bride remains in her parental house, several miles away. A building contractor hires Muli and Lakhi as unskilled laborers, and also propositions Lakhi. Although Lakhi acquiesces, the incident highlights the plight of Bauri women who must work as unskilled laborers, earning low wages and subjected to sexual exploitation.
