ABSTRACT

This summary presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book considers the crucial effect of a social environment and the use of language on human learning. It discusses aspects of learning. Reinforcement is seen as a powerful determinant of human behaviour, but its effects are modified considerably by the influence of language and the influence of the social environment. The book presents language transforms human learning in several ways. It determines the goals of teaching; to establish the method of achieving them involves the examination of the related teaching. Heuristic approaches are less clearly structured than algorithms and are applicable to problems that are not susceptible of logical analysis by an algorithmic method. Many of the teaching skills used in approaches to teaching such as microteaching are seen as second-order skills.
