ABSTRACT

Althoughitcanbeaperilouspath,collaborationisthebestwayto ensurethateveryone'sneedsarebeingmet.Somepeoplewillresist collaborationtosolvetheproblemsofothersbecausetheyarenot directlysufferingtheconsequencesoftheproblem.Insuchcases, peoplehavebeenforcedtocollaborate,asinthestoryabovetaken fromSusanB.Anthony'sfavoritespeech.Aslongasthepoorhadno power,thoseinpowermadelittleefforttorespondtotheirneeds.Once thepoorweregiventhepowerofvoting,eventheleadersmostopposed togivingassistancetothepoorrecognizedthenecessityformaking surethattheyandtheirchildrenwouldbeeducatedappropriatelyso theymightusethatpowerwisely.Cynicscouldarguethatthereal purposeofeducationbeingsupportedbythepowerfulinthisinstance wastoensurethatthepoorvotedthewaythoseinpowerwantedthemto vote,butthatmerelyillustrateshowmixedmotivescreatecomplexity incollaborativeefforts.
