ABSTRACT

Prayer and praying carry a great deal of emotional and spiritual baggage, particularly when linked to grief and bereavement. This chapter will examine how prayer functions as a continuing bond for individuals who pray for deceased friends, for others bereaved in the friendorbit, and for grace to reconcile with the loss. The inability to pray after a friend’s death or a feeling that one’s prayers are ineffective may be an issue for some clients. Clinicians must be acquainted with diversity in prayer mediums.
