ABSTRACT

Despite numerous attempts to overcome the stigmas of old, modem technical communicators may once again be running the risk of being marginalized to the status of organizational bottom feeders. Pressured to succeed during a hostile climate, companies are continually searching for cost-cutting programs to maintain financial stability, and in many instances this means eliminating bloated payrolls by dramatically reducing employee numbers and outsourcing projects to contractors who can handle the job more economically. In order to remain competitive, modem technical communicators have had to augment their roles in the corporate hierarchy, transforming themselves into technically proficient architects of knowledge warehousing.
