ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: In this paper, a method was developed to link the band-pass filtering technique with the time and frequency-domain modal identification method by using the random decrement technique in combination with Hilbert-Huang transform. The proposed method improved the accuracy and reliability of parameter identification by effectively avoiding mixed frequencies that occurred during signal decomposition. The validity of this method was verified by identifying the frequency and damping ratio of the IASC-ASCE structural health monitoring benchmark structure. The results indicated that the identification error can be reduced by combining the RDT with EMD to process the time sequences that resulted from filtering the specific ranges of frequencies of structural earthquake time histories by using the HHT method. Therefore, the proposed method can be applied to other modal identification techniques.
