ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Composite materials are sensitive to the impact load. Therefore it is necessary to carry out the online structural health monitoring for the impact on composite structures. In this paper, experimental study on impact localization based on fiber Bragg grating measurement and wavelet analysis is presented. A composite plate with the size of 480 mm × 480 mm is adopted in the experiment. Impact responses are measured using the fiber Bragg grating. Wavelet packet transform is used to extract the energy feature vector. Similarity matching algorithm is used to determine the impact localization on the composite laminate. Results show that the positioning errors of eight impact points are small.
