ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: It’s complicated to calculate the buoyancy and anti-floating water level in multilayered strata. Based on the comparison and analysis of current progresses, both the generally accepted principles and inconsistent dispute are summarized, where the buoyancy reduction of underground structures in aquitards is highlighted. A simplified method based on local empirical reduction factors is proposed in this paper, where ten different models and corresponding formulae are given for various distributions of aquifers and aquitards. The  applicability and safety of our proposed approach are verified by comparing the calculated results with reported experiments.
