ABSTRACT

In the summer between her tenth and eleventh grade years, a student named Marguerite enrolled in my visual learning program. After a few sessions, I did a little test with the group. I asked students to take ten minutes and write a quick summary of their weekends. (The following writing samples and web are unedited.) These are the forty-three words Marguerite produced:

On Friday I went to my cousin’s birthday party. That night, some girls from Pennsylvania came to my house. The next day all of us went to the 4H Fair. Today, we had the first meeting of our youth group. It was a fun weekend.
