ABSTRACT
Webbing is gloriously simple and highly intuitive. It has few rules, but the ones it does have are black and white. This rare combination of flexibility and formality makes it an easy strategy both to use and to teach to your students. For teachers, webbing may even peel hours off time spent lesson planning. This chapter explores the laws that make webbing so effective in engaging both the left and right hemispheres in the process of visual inquiry. These laws bridge the hemispheres and establish webs and mind maps as visual outlines that correlate precisely to traditional outlines. This duality is the killer app of webbing. It allows learners to think creatively and then to use that creativity to work in a linear fashion. This is the key to maximizing the mind’s potential.
