Universals Transformed: The First Thousand Years After Plato

The idea of universals underwent surprising changes during the 1000 years of ancient Greek philosophy. This applies both to universal concepts in the mind and to universals as things. I shall deal with universals as things first and concepts second, but it will turn out that the two subjects are connected, and that both underwent big changes.1
