ABSTRACT

Pierre d’Exideuil Our immediate duty is to explain the motives of our visit, to say that we have come, not to pick up a few details, but to receive in the presence of the man and of his work, with their background of a whole countryside, a great lesson in humanity. Our words evidently arouse no alarm in the master, for a frank, almost impulsive conversation begins. To reproduce the note of familiarity which characterized the dialogue we must give the actual substance of these two interviews.
