ABSTRACT

Joshua Harris The last time that I saw the subject of this appreciation was at the unveiling of Rodin’s bust of William Ernest Henley1 in the crypt of Saint Paul’s Cathedral. It was a most notable occasion; and we were, some of us, a most remarkable company. There was present a goodly contingent of Henley’s young men – none of them any longer very young, except in the youthful zeal and zest of their loyalty to the memory of their master-spirit – most of them grown woefully sober and worldly-wise, and respectable and prosperous. The Right Hon. George Wyndham, Member for Dover, presided over the proceedings, and Canon Scott Holland assisted in the religious part of the ceremony.
