ABSTRACT

The above-referenced quotation was written by Deleuze in his Preface to Difference and Repetition. This leads to some of the immanent implications of this work and demonstrates how Deleuzian concepts might generate transformative possibilities for theorising economic development. Laurel Richardson (2001, p. 35) once stated that “I write in order to learn something that I did not know before I wrote it”. In a similar vein, this research too can be construed as a kind of detective novel that leads one to discover an alternative theoretical framework for understanding the practice of local economic development that is useful for resolving problems and is applicable in diverse local situations. The key point to note is that the practice of local economic development can be considered a Deleuzian concept that can be understood by exploring the theory of difference.
