ABSTRACT

This chapter presents cases of modelling sustainability of the air transport system and its main components – airlines, airports and ATC/ATM. Eight specific cases are presented.

The first section deals with the modelling of the operational, economic and environmental performances of an air transport network. This network consists of airports and air routes connecting them. The main performances of interest are the network capacity and profitability achieved, which could be achieved after setting up different environmental constraints in terms of noise and air pollution throughout the network after internalising their the externalities.
