ABSTRACT

Location-based games, mixed-reality games and AR games are likely to have a more significant impact on leisure facilities in the near future, especially because of their ability to fuse physical and virtual elements seamlessly and offer multidimensional game elements. A key catalyst for such games in leisure facilities is the increasing expectation of visitors for more meaningful and varied gameplay in public places, especially as at-home consumer-game genres have become more sophisticated and diverse and as leisure facilities serve more multifaceted purposes. Also, the burgeoning popularity of smartphones has made location-based games more attractive and accessible. Beyond that, these games can add new dimensions to more traditional storytelling and interactive experiences in parks and other leisure facilities.
