ABSTRACT
The aim of this concluding chapter is to identify some of the main strands of a
theology of the Third Space. These strands will help show where hybridity is already
emerging within recent Christian thought, both implicitly and explicitly. They will
thus become the critical tools by which to explore the concept of the Third Space as a
new device that can not only help create some guidelines by which to measure the
effectiveness of church praxis in local communities, but also provide some dynamic
theological principles that will support and encourage innovative church-based
practice in the future. Some of these strands will be harvested from the previous
chapters, which have explored a Third Space social ethics and a Third Space
ecclesiology. Others will emerge from sources not yet encountered in this book. What
will appear is an original and creative synthesis of new and existing ideas that will
begin to construct a practical theology based on the principles of hybridity and Third
Space practice and thought.
