It is delightful talking to Stanley-the conversation of a man who has seen and done so much could hardly fail to be interesting even if he did not possess that wonderful gift of word painting which Stanley has to such a degree-- he seems to take you right away from your surroundings and you see the forests and rivers and lakes of Central Africa-he has, too, such a keen sense of the ridiculous which is nuts to an Irishman.
