ABSTRACT

It is a revolution which is seeing significant advances across a multitude of disciplines. Like some of the earlier cultural and economic revolutions which have punctuated the rise and fall of human civilization this revolution is one of knowledge – the so-called ‘knowledge revolution’.2 This revolution is based on the acquiring, processing, and dissemination of knowledge, just as the last great technological revolution, the Industrial Revolution, concerned the mass production, and distribution of commodities,3 through the acquisition of the knowledge associated with applied technology.
