ABSTRACT

If a team is to be effective then the members of it need to be able to state their views, their differences of opinion, interests and problems without fear of ridicule or retaliation. No teams work really effectively if there is a ‘cut-your-throat’ or ‘stabbing-in-the-back’ atmosphere. Where members become less willing or able to express themselves openly much energy, effort and creativity are lost. Similarly there is a need to confront problems and issues rather than avoid them. Effective teams do not avoid delicate or unpleasant issues, they confront them honestly and squarely.
