ABSTRACT

Effective teamwork seeks to pool the skills of individuals and to produce better results by so doing. Whilst the effectiveness of the team can be greater than the sum of the parts it also follows that effective teams need to pay attention to the development of individual skills. Just as different societies have different views of the developed group so throughout the history of man different societies and cultures have had different views as to what constitutes the developed and effective individual. As one obvious fact about teams is that they are a collection of individuals, then their effectiveness must in part be a function of individual ability.
