ABSTRACT

As the aviation workforce becomes more diverse, i.e., more multi-national and multi-cultural, aviation education and training institutions should re-examine the structure and organization of the aviation knowledge transfer process. This chapter presents an aviation education model that incorporates the authors' research on a number of factors that influence the success of aviation education efforts. The resulting model combines data-driven and literature-supported enhancements to aviation education to address how to assure successful learning within a diverse workforce. The model includes faculty and peer group interventions, as weH as implications of adult learning, in-depth theory, and curriculum that addresses all learning styles, immediate application after the classroom experience, group learning, and mentor involvement. In addition to aviation, this model has the potential for application in any high technology aviation environment, including air carrier training and military training. Investing in enhancements for curriculum delivery formats should have a high payoff in increased retention of a diverse workforce.
