ABSTRACT

The agendas and priorities of academia in its response to conflict can be seen through the development and application of theory and thematic research relevant to security and conflict, through the quantity and content of academic materials such as journals and books, and through the study and teaching of history. looking at the overall quantity and content of academic activity in this field, a distinct and pronounced Western-centric slant can be observed, and analysis and discussion of the security issues, together with the political, military, economic and social implications of the world’s largest conflicts, most notably those in africa, are largely absent from mainstream academia.
