ABSTRACT

The purpose of any selection battery is to identify individuals who are most likely to advance the goals and objectives of the organization. The primary purpose of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) ATC system is to 'prevent a collision between aircraft operating in the system and to organize and expedite the flow of traffic" (FAA, 1999a), and the secondary purpose is to 'provide (with certain limitations) additional services." Thus, the purpose of the selection battery used to select candidate ATCOs in the U.S. is to identify people who can be trained to successfully accomplish these goals.
