ABSTRACT

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) regulates and oversees the private security industry in England and Wales, and is responsible for the licensing of door supervisors. (More information about the work of the SIA can be found in Chapter 25.)

Since early 2004, the licensing of door supervisors has been phased in, and now a person can only work as a door supervisor if they possess an SIA licence. A person requires a Door Supervisor Licence if they are responsible for security, protection or screening the suitability of people entering the premises or dealing with conflict in pubs, clubs and other licensed premises open to the public. This applies to those specific times when alcohol is being supplied for consumption on the premises and/or regulated entertainment is taking place.
