ABSTRACT

Should we 'play God' with the human germline? Should we intervene in human germ cells so as to alter the genetic makeup of future generations not yet born? Does such intervention into the future of DNA betray excessive human confidence - pride or hubris - and constitute a violation of the sacred? Some scientists and religious spokespersons say 'yes' and are trying to shut the door to germline enhancement and tack up a sign reading, 'Thou shalt not play God'.
