ABSTRACT

What is the relationship between scientific research and the Christian faith?l This is a multileveled question. At the theoretical level, where for so long we assumed science and theology were at war with one another, we are today discovering marvelous new areas of common concern. At the personal level, we are finding increased impetus for scientists to express their faith in ways that complement rather than conflict with their study of the natural world. At the church level, however, there seems to be some ambivalence, perhaps an unspoken hostility on the part of our church leaders aimed at scientific researchers. Then, finally, at the political level, we confront the moral issue of staggering importance, namely, the role of the scientist in the weapons industry.
