ABSTRACT
The rapid technological developments in weapon, sensor, and communication systems have changed the character of military command substantially. The employment of advanced equipment has opened new possibilities and opportunities, but has also made task performance more complicated and often less transparent. Commanders need to select and process what is relevant in vast quantities of information in order to assess the true nature of often complex situations, and to make decisions under time pressure that may have major tactical or political consequences.
