ABSTRACT
In the previous chapter I suggested that, as a useful working definition, ‘religion’ consists of statements about metaphysical reality, and beliefs and practices flowing from such statements. Although this is useful as a way of gauging whether a particular system is ‘religious’, in practical terms the concept of religious interests is more significant. By religious interests I mean claims for consideration by the legal system arising from the claimant’s religion.
