ABSTRACT

Most people in clinical research recognize the three buzz words for finding patients: in-reach, referral and outreach. In-reach usually means looking through existing patient records to find people who meet a study’s eligibility requirements. Referral applies to people identified by other healthcare providers who direct their own patients to a clinical study. And outreach applies to active efforts by study personnel to look outside their network for qualified patients. These are the methods clinical studies have historically used to find patients and will continue to use. But something has changed.
