ABSTRACT

You might say that the 1990s health care debate in the US set the stage. The American public became more focused on and more critical of the health care system, and hasn’t let up since. Managed care was scrutinized and perceived as a money-focused enterprise, set on shortchanging the public. Healthcare in general, a system that the public had counted on for care and nurturing, became as suspect as “Big Tobacco” or “Big Oil.”
