ABSTRACT

As we approach the 21st century, social work educators and practitioners are faced with the imperative of responding to far-reaching changes. The prospects for social work education and practice may either be viewed as bleak and daunting, or alternatively as exciting and challenging. In this chapter, I begin by identifying some of the key themes which have emerged from the different contributions about reflective learning included in this book. I then highlight some of the fundamental changes facing society, social work education and practice today, and suggest that reflective learning is one approach which can equip students to respond to the rapidly changing world they will be practising in.
