ABSTRACT

Traditionally, records managers have spent an inordinate amount of their time organizing and managing the inactive records of the organization. Because these records require special handling in order to safeguard crucial organizational interests, the nature of these interests tend to necessitate long-term storage. Hence the incurrence of long-term storage costs. When these storage costs are managed carefully, significant savings are accrued for the organization. Nevertheless, we will see in this chapter that the best records management investment is in the improvement of active record systems.
