ABSTRACT

This contribution is concerned with the economic development of Slovenia, and especially the growth of the financial sector, during the interwar period. The discussion and analysis considers the region's changing comparative position within the economy of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. While Slovenia was the leading manufacturing area within the Kingdom, it was not a dominant pole of trade and finance. Zagreb was the financial centre of Yugoslavia during the interwar period, whereas Belgrade also had some prominence in trade and finance, especially during the 1930s when Yugoslavia was further centralized.
