ABSTRACT

All these approaches are meant to aid us in our quest for the morally good and right in concrete situations. In addition to telling us how we could justify a moral decision once it has been taken, they also claim to provide guidance in that they help us reach a justifiable decision. Methods of moral reflection are meant to help us attain true beliefs about what would be morally appropriate to do or to be. These approaches, therefore, presuppose some idea of what it means to follow a rule, or to follow a precedent in one's search for a moral solution to a problem case.
