ABSTRACT

Is the Church as institution able to be a liberator among the poor and oppressed? Is conversion possible given the spirituality of the sacredness of power held only by pastors and bishops? Is it possible to trust the stated preferential option for the poor, to hope that the Church may break its historical pact with temporal rulers and be converted to gospel poverty, in solidarity with those who are denied their rights, converted to prophetic courage, fearless in the face of persecution, torture, and death, and so follow the Suffering Servant, Jesus Christ?
