ABSTRACT
Application of systems approach in railways is given in the simplified flow chart of Figure 6.1 . Even if the problem focuses on a technical need, railway managers should begin from defining the real problem, which could be put as: 'What is the transport need to be satisfied and what are the targets being aimed at? '. In every step of a systems approach, all alternative solutions should be carefully examined.
