ABSTRACT

Manywomenareharmedbyabroadrangeofmalebehavioursthatoccur inavarietyofsocialcontexts,suchaswithinintimaterelationships,onthe streets,andintheworkplace(DeKeseredyandHinch1991).Whilemost womanabuseresearchers,especiallyfeminists,assertthatfemalevictimizationismultidimensionalinnature,mostofthemfocustheirattentionon theincidence,causes,andconsequencesofmalephysicalandsexual violenceagainstwomenindomesticrelationships.Comparedtothe magnitudeofempirical,theoretical,andpolicyresearchinthisimportant area,anequallyifnotmoreseriousproblemforwomen-corporate violence-isgivenshortshrift.Muchmorescholarlyattentionshouldbe devotedtocorporateviolenceagainstwomenbecauseasubstantialnumber ofCanadianfemaleemployeesareeitherkilledorseriouslyinjuredevery yearintheworkplace(Chenier1982;DeKeseredyandHinch1~91;Goff andReasons1986;Reasons,Ross,andPatterson1981,1991).Ifthereisa dearthofempiricalknowledgeonviolent'crimesofcapital'(Michalowski 1985),thesamecanbesaidofshort-termpoliciestocurbthem.
