ABSTRACT

Quality systems may range from simple inspection to those systems surpassing the requirements of the ISO 9000 quality management system series or any other recognized quality system standard (that is, QS 9000). System failures can result in obsolescent stocks, lost items, production or operation delays, missed meet ings, additional work, scrap, rectification, late deliveries, additional transportation costs, poor service, and non-conforming products and services. Product and/or service failures result in warranty, guarantee and product liability claims, com plaint administration and investigation, product recall, additional customer service costs, and loss of customer goodwill. Non-value added activity and wastage simply increase the organization’s operating costs.
