ABSTRACT

Within the construction industry there is the well-established chain of client, consultant and contractor. Sometimes the construction works are supervised on behalf of the client by the consultant, sometimes by the client direct, depending upon skills and resources available. For a project to be successful, however, all must play their part and therefore understand clearly what their part is. To enable this to happen it is essential that there are well-defined interfaces, clear levels of responsibility and properly specified requirements, including those concerning work planning, resourcing, skills, acceptance criteria, records and so on.
