ABSTRACT

Selecting to start planning for change by increasing wanted behaviours is a very deliberate part of the programme. It also represents a considerable shift from where most people begin. Most parents want to decrease or stop behaviours that trouble them and this usually involves some form of punishing strategy. The concept of working to increase desired behaviours is based on the knowledge that strategies for increasing wanted behaviours are much more fun to be involved in for everybody. They are also more effective and probably have a stronger generalising effect.
