ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses aspects of the impact of technology on management, the market, and international competition as key external environmental variables.

Chapter 1 commented on the impact on management of technology, the market, and international competition as external environmental variables. Chapter 4 looked at some of the organizational consequences of the need to adapt to the influence of technology, the market, and international competition. That chapter summarizes and compares examples of organizational structures that may be more or less well suited to coping with changing conditions within these three external environmental variables. Chapter 5 examines the potential for de-integrated value chain structures to respond quickly and flexibly to changing external conditions. Chapter 14 examined the nature of situations and contingencies to which leadership style may have to adapt in order to be effective.
