ABSTRACT

The death of Bill Reid in November 2003 brought to an end his work which, over a period spanning five decades, shaped the agenda for research on social work services. He was, at the time of his unexpected death,1 Distinguished Professor at the State University of New York. Reid spent his career in social work education. His early work grew from mainstream experimental outcome evaluation. His later work harnessed continued development and evaluation of goal-oriented models to a growing engagement with qualitative, process-oriented research.
