ABSTRACT

In this chapter we examine the period prevalence of illness in the study population. Children under five had the highest period prevalence of illness, followed by female adults. Beri Badh had the highest period prevalence compared to other areas. Over 80 percent of households reported at least one adult member ill over the previous 14 days. Female adults had a higher period prevalence of illness than male adults, and female heads had a higher period prevalence of fever, abdominal pain and any illness compared with male household heads. Female earners also had a higher prevalence of illness compared to male earners. The likely impact of the high rates of adult ill health and the factors affecting observed gender differentials are discussed.
