ABSTRACT
The collection of documents in this chapter spans a century: the first document deals with the first invasion of Jaffna by the Portuguese in 1560 and the last with an inquiry held by the Portuguese administration in Jaffna in 1645. Together, they illustrate a number of facets of the interaction between the people of Jaffna and the Portuguese.
