ABSTRACT
The rapid increase in world container port traffic has led to ongoing demands for additional container port capacity. This analysis evaluates development of world container port traffic by country and region over the last ten years or so. All major world container ports are considered, highlighting the growing incidence of transhipment. A survey of these ports undertaken by the author further emphasises the impact this has had on the need for new port capacity geared towards serving transhipment markets.
