ABSTRACT

Recently, the small forest-industrial town of Svetogorsk in Russia has witnessed as much globalization of the forest industry as is possible in the contemporary world. International Paper Ltd., the world's biggest forest company that has operations on all continents, has arrived in the Russian territory in Svetogorsk. It has done this, however, by keeping in mind the advantages that the proximity to the European Union can provide. The company has, in addition, been negotiating with transnational environmental organizations about logging sites, thus establishing a connection to environmental issues that have been characterized as global.
