ABSTRACT
The chapter comprises five sections. The second section negotiates the regional development problem, the evolution of regional policy and the relevance of PI for regional development. The third section briefly presents the content and evolution of EU regional policy while the fourth is devoted to the analysis of its integration with the selected policies. The fifth section discusses the implications of PI for combating desertification while the last section offers policy recommendations and suggestions for future research.
