ABSTRACT

There can be no organizations that are not aware of the changing employment climate, migratory workforce, drivers for compliance with Equality and Disability Discrimination legislation, aging population and the huge number of other factors which shape the way that they now recruit, train, treat and promote their employees.1 Yet these issues are often not fully addressed, out of reticence or even fear, on the part of the organization or on the part of the individual trainer or manager. The hugely important issues around diversity have become so loaded with the burden of political correctness that often we either don’t know how to raise them directly, or we feel that we can’t. The chosen solution here is often for organizations to tell their people about their ‘policies’ and how these relate to the law, but this doesn’t address the issue at hand, merely it provides corporate lip service to doing the ‘right thing’.
