ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the nature of the State in peripheral capitalist countries, and particularly the major characteristics of the State in African society in general and in Cameroonian society in particular. It seeks to promote understanding of the bureaucratic motives of state institutions and other agents acting on the state's behalf in the urban and regional planning field in Cameroon. The book retraces the evolution of modern land policy in Cameroon. It discusses the country's housing policy. The book examines Cameroon's contemporary land policy in terms of its major provisions and the implications of these provisions for sustainable development. It focuses on the country's 'Environmental Hygiene and Waste Management' problems and policy. The book also examines the country's transportation and infrastructure policy from historical and contemporary perspectives.
